2nd HALF MVP NL: Chris Young

This guy has got it together this year. We’re seeing his true 30-30 potential. He’s the one D-Back who seems to care about not striking out 75% of his at-bats. Under Kirk Gibson’s leadership, Young could thrive even more. His aggressive baserunning, combined with power and a better eye, could make this NL all-star the NL player of the year (for the second half).

“It just seems like he found his timing,” manager Joe Girardi said of Alex Rodriguez. “He had some time off and he was kind of battling a little bit. It just seemed like he really found his timing and had big hits all series long for us.”

BUY: Garrett Jones

This from Rotowire.com: Thursday marks the one-year anniversary of the Pirates’ recall of Jones to the major leagues last summer. Since that time, Jones has compiled a .288 batting average (173-for-599) with 38 doubles, 31 homers, 91 RBI and 16 steals.

SIT: BJ Upton

Is it time to give up on BJ Upton? Has Joe Maddon given up? Does BJ really have a strained quad? Is that what’s keeping him on the bench for the third consecutive night tonight?

BUY: Chris Coghlan

Second half stats for Coghlan in 2009 include a .372 average. He’s on a tear now in June. Buy while you still can in some leagues.
